Green Book Launch: Dublin 28th May 2013

I had the pleasure of meeting Brian Showers (Swan River Press) at one of the many BFS Open Nights I ran in London. I told him that if he ever ran an event in Dublin – a location both Helen & I had always wanted visit – I would attend, as it was only fair after all, especially now that he had made it to the ON.

This first set of images (here) are taken from the day after the launch, when Brian very kindly acted as our tour guide, retracing many of the footsteps he took when researching Literary Walking Tours of Gothic Dublin. This excellent book reveals the interaction of Irish writers – Charles Maturin, Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu & Bram Stoker – with the city of Dublin, including their former lodgings and places influential to their fictions.

The Green Book looks to be a logical continuation / expansion of this earlier work, throwing its net to catch a wider range of writers of Irish Gothic, Supernatural and Fantastic Literature. Part of the evenings festivities included a entertaining talk – with slides – from Gwilym Games from the Friends of Arthur Machen (FOAM), discussing the links between Ireland and Arthur Machen. Images from the evening can be viewed (Coming Soon). © Photographs: Helen Hopley and Martin Roberts

Friday 7th December: BFS London Open Night 6-11pm

I’m hosting the next BFS ON, which just happens to be the one where we celebrate Christmas…at the moment the Mug House (London Bridge) is booked but I’m always on the look out for alternative venues. No guests to announce just yet, but this one will have the usual mini-raffle and more importantly, a chance to socialise with friends, authors, publishers and artist’s etc. without the need of a technological interface.

Email for details etc.
